To say that the past few weeks had been surreal would be an understatement. They had included an all too daring robbery, pointing a gun at someone, having a gun pointed at himself, a cell - and then suddenly adoption papers, freedom, and a chance at a new home. Which was too much to happen in such a short span of time, at least for him. As if someone had decided to slip a drop of vibrant color into a dirty, old glass of water.

Sasha had never had a proper home. Some orphans refer to their orphanage as a home, with brothers and sisters and caretakers, but not him. He never stayed in one place for too long - people around him would kindly call him a 'troubled soul, who just needed to find the right place'. Behind his back, though, he was always just a problem child. Problem children never really have a proper family, not even when they are born into one. Problem children hit brothers and sister and caretakers alike.

But from now on he wouldn't be a problem anymore. This was his chance to turn around.

With a luggage, a backpack, and a pet carrier, he was at his supposed new home. A pit in his stomach insisted on dwelling - doubting that he was ever meant to be here. Doubting that from now on his surname was seriously going to be Boyle. 'Sasha Boyle' had a nice ring to it, it made him feel like he was truly changing into something, into a better person. In his cage, little Cheshire was meowing, confused by the sudden journey made by his owner, which made two of them. He went through pleasantries with his adoptive parents feeling nothing but mild surprise that such a seemingly pleasant couple would want anything to do with a child like him. And disgust. Ever since he arrived he was feeling disgust. But now came the most difficult part.

He had a twin sister. Robyn, they said he name was. After all this time, he was meeting somebody that was trully his family. His blood. He paused at the door to her room, considered how bad it would be if he ran away now, touched the small cross pendant around neck, and finally knocked. The sound of knuckles against wood made his heart ripple.

Because he had a second chance at family, and he'd be damned if he blew at being a brother

With a rather bland gaze, the girl looked up to the light rapping on the wooden door of her room. She was told this day would come. Brushing a thick lock of brown hair behind her ears, Robyn pushed her desk chair back went to open the door.

When she opened the door, she was face-to-face with her twin brother. Fraternal, it was obvious. She had only seen a blurry photo of him just a month before when her parents brought the news forward. It was a shock hearing she had a brother, let alone a twin. Her parents were a mystery to everyone involved, but a lucky photo left behind in the adoption agency gave a slight clue. The photo was torn, ripped conveniently where their assumed mother's face would be, but the two brunettes sat pretty in her arms. A quick inquiry showed there was a boy left behind with her, but the pair was separated by some fluke mistake. Another quick search brought him up in the system. Sasha. It was an odd name to give a boy. Perhaps they mixed her name up with his. Maybe she was meant to be Sasha, and her brother Robyn.

It took a lot of the girl to force a smile to the boy. She was excited to meet someone she was related to by blood, but she couldn't discern the rest of the emotions that filled her body. She never was good at registering them in the first place.

Not knowing how else to react, Robyn held out a hand. "It's nice to finally meet you," she spoke, brows twitching slightly as she forced a happy tone.

On his end, they had been much less careful with informing him about his supposed twin sister. A photograph, shown just a couple of days ago, that he should have paid better attention to. Safe to say, the sight of her took him aback.

He knew he shouldn't stare - that he should be friendly and casual. Brotherly, although he had only a vague sense of what being brotherly was like. It was daunting, to all of a sudden have a proper family, one that would (most likely) not pass him along the second he made trouble. That being said, he did stare, dumbfounded, studying his kin the way one would study a particularly funny-shaped fossil at the museum. Not really convinced that it's real, perhaps? Sasha took her hand and shook it firmer than it would have been necessary, his other hand still holding onto the pet carrier he had refused to abandon in his new room that was yet to feel like it was his.

Cheshire let out another, high-pitched meow, nosing the grate and casting Robyn round-eyed, careful glances. "Huh, yeah. Nice to meet'cha." the teenager huffed, his smile incredulous but genuine. He didn't know whether he should walk in, or just leave. Orphanages had a much more saccharine procedure of introducing him to the rest of the children, and it never lay in his hands to be nice to them. The "just say your name, and a couple of things about yourself" approach, mechanical and spotless, if you wanted to be instantly alienated from everybody else, to let them study you while you wait, dumbfounded, having done this before. They think they know you but they surely don't.

Which raised the question - exactly how much did she know about him? Suddenly, he became all too aware of the smells of cigarette ash and alcohol that might've clung to him. Steel on his hands, but surely those had faded with time? "Don't suppose I could come in? Let the little guy stretch his legs, too. And, uh, catch up." Sasha gestured to the cage when he didn't know what to do with his free hand, sticking his finger through the grate and feeling a nose meekly sniffling around it. It was for the best if he acted natural, in any case.
