| Portals & the Existence of MonstersThere is another plane of existence in the shadow of our own, a place we still don't understand and perhaps never will. It is a world of black seas and ancient ruins, teeming with unnatural and alien creatures out of myth and nightmare, and the cradle of all gifts. Portals to this dimension sometimes blink open in the wild places of the globe where humans are scarce, sometimes recurring in the same area, sometimes closing to never appear again. One of these portals once existed on the grounds of Beata Academy, forced open by Headmaster Rivers and lasting after his death. His daughter, known as Agrona, not only learned how to open these portals, but how to use them to traverse great distances. Agrona wreaked terror on the world by opening these portals, loosing monsters across the face of the globe. It became a necessity to send students and Guardians to find and destroy the unnatural creatures released from these portals, and the concept of missions was introduced to the Academy's curriculum. The portals have stabilized since Agrona's imprisonment and many seem to have sealed for good, including the one on Beata campus. Mission RulesMissions are official Guardian assignments given to student volunteers, Guardians, and school faculty. These assignments might be neutralizing monsters, investigating supernatural circumstances, capturing artifacts, animals, or people, or simple community service. Depending on the needs of the mission, a volunteer group might consist of 2 to 6 students. While sometimes dangerous, missions are valuable trust-building and learning experiences that allow students to use their powers hands-on. Students are excused from homework and class assignments administered in their absence, although they must make up any major tests. Transportation outside the city is typically handled by a Guardian chauffeur, who usually waits at a designated rendezvous point after the students arrive at their destination. For students, missions can be extra credit, an alternative to detention or in-school suspension, or just a free vacation to an exotic locale. They are especially important for Guardian prospects, whose performance is closely watched and evaluated. Each mission has a danger level and age restriction, set by the mission creator to what they deem appropriate. See the creation template in the Mission Board for more info. | |
