The intense summer heat had subsided long ago, so climbing onto the roofs was once again a logical course of action. Settling at one of the highest points of the school building, the thin figure of a phantom fell into a posture as aesthetic as the neatly-arranged flowers of the Vestal Gardens, the mask of his screen scarcely lifted to reveal the vestiges of his snowy face, bone-white like a porcelain doll of the snow queens of a fairy tale, ready to shatter if he should fall from the roof. Sunlight never met his eyes, the warmth never quite touching their glassy pupils where silky lashes framed sapphire as though they were down feathers. A shield. Books were scattered across the marble floors, each stacked with content that no child would be capable of comprehending, through its very large texts of never-ending diction and complicated terms; some lay opened, the wind flinging their pages in a ripple of waves, and others were as firm as stone, stubbornly rooted in place to keep any homework from flying straight to the sun.

His heart pounded with every movement that rang throughout the campus, able to hear all the melodies of nature, the whispers and gossips of excited students, the brushes of hugs and kisses, and the mere idea of touching someone else. All of it. He could hear it. He could feel it. The wind would tell him what it was. The noon bell struck some minutes ago, and the faint aroma of pastries lingered in the air. Thin lips pressed thinner against each other.

Soft green hair billowed in the breezes, the long locks mimicking the wings of a bird as they fluttered over his serene and innocent face, covered by a blank screen. A toy robot that shut down and required to charge before anyone could play with it once more, dozing off in a silent cold sleep of death.

It was the initial flutter of green locks that caught the young girl's attention from one of the various benches that dotted the campus gardens.

A small book sat open in her palm, pen scribbled lightly all across the pages. A collection of lyrics could be made out from close enough, with words scratched out and replaced by short text pressed into the margins. Rosemary tapped her pen against her lips as she carried herself towards one the staircases, a low hum escaping her throat as the tune in her head began to manifest itself. All of her focus was directed to the song on her page. The girl nearly tripped over the stairs as she began her ascension, dragging her away from the lyrics momentarily before repeating the process.

As she neared the rooftops, the blonde felt her mind wander to the green hair that brought her upwards to begin with. Naturally, she scribbled down similes describing the shape and colour of this stranger's hair in rhythmic patterns. The words seemed to overlap with the original theme of her song, and as she reached the top of the stairs and caught sight of the owner of her new muse, the melody came to an end.

Fully out of her dazed state, Rosemary's brows twitched in confusion. Why had she come up here? she wondered as she glanced around at her surroundings. Perhaps it was the eerie similarities between this stranger's hair and her own father's, or so she was told. Or perhaps it was the odd sense of familiarity that came from the small frame that carried such long locks.

The mint green top before her held an aura of serenity as it flowed like the wind itself. She felt almost rude interrupting whoever slept so peacefully, but curiosity filled her mind and she felt an itch to find out who this person was. With a shy voice the Spring approached, tentatively tapping their shoulder. "S-Sorry to bother you.."

Something brushed against his shoulder - so soft, so delicate it rested, the touch light enough to be snatched away at any time. Expression gentle and voice unyielding followed suit. An unwelcome guest.

After an agonizingly long few minutes, realization crept in slowly and reluctantly as he twisted his body an inch to the left. His brain stuttered once, twice, registering a tousle of flaxen-gold hair that was too long to be a bob but too short to be called anything else. The breeze swept her wavy tresses to one side, a flower plastered on her right ear. When had another student... Aine awkwardly flinched back, curling into himself like a flower bud, figure tensing as he hastily pulled down his digital mask to cover the remnants of his exposed face.

His mask flicked on with a white light behind the glassy surfaces, gaze drifting back to meet aquamarine eyes, far from vacant with a sickeningly innocent glint in them. A dramatic sigh sounded nonchalantly, the screen preventing a white cloud of mist from passing. His heartbeat's slow familiar cadence was obnoxiously loud, each beat crashing with the ring of cymbals. "... In any case - bother or not -, you did wake me up and it doesn't seem like you plan to let me rest anytime soon, so I'll bite," Aine started, a lofty lighthearted timbre pushing away any sensation of exhaustion that remained.

A pause.

"How do you plan to entertain me after disturbing my nice dreams, Rosemary?" He extended his arms up, stretching the painfully paper-thin limbs to regain his bearings and control.
