School Rules & City Laws Empty

Universal Rules
Communication with the outside world is heavily monitored and restricted for the safety of the community. It is the Guardian's policy to erase or alter the memories of those who see or hear things they shouldn't, or who prove unreliable with our kind's secrets. Blanks, giftless people with no powers of their own, are not permitted to live in the city unless they have a gifted immediate relative.

Students receive a weekly stipend of credits. The amount received depends on living or academic needs, age, or prefect status.

All weapons in the city must be registered. Firearms are only issued to adult Guardians, with limited ammunition. It is Beata Academy's historical custom to grant pre-modern weapons to its students for training, but some things have changed. Weapons must now be concealed when transported, and left secured in the student's dorm during class hours. Students with a history of violence or crime will have their weapons confiscated. Shapeshifting kin groups under the special authority of the Lupo clan are permitted to craft, trade, and openly carry their own weapons, although they still must be registered.

Unity Links are mandatory for all minors over the age of 5. Unity Links are slim metal cuffs a watch-like monitor, with a screen can be expanded and presented holographically. These bracelets grow more elaborate as they are updated with more features; this includes a tracking device, vitals monitoring, ID, and optional add-ons for Esper, etc. They are first received at age 5, upon enrollment at Liberi Academy. They can be removed, but its removal will send out a signal to faculty and authorities, so you better have a good reason. The more a student acts out, the more the Unity Link acts as a restraint. Students may have their gift usage monitored, their movements limited (similar to an ankle monitor), or have locks placed on their Link to prevent its removal, even overnight. It is capable of giving a taser-like electric shock.

After reaching the age of majority, the Unity Link is no longer required and can be deactivated. However, all active Guardians must continue to wear them as long as they serve, as well as anyone with a criminal record.

No schools in Rivers Pointe charge for tuition.

Liberi Academy
Liberi provides no boarding, and children go home at the end of the school day, and enjoy a lengthy summer vacation. At this age, the majority of students cannot even voluntarily evoke their powers. They wear white uniforms trimmed with blue.

Daytime Care (ages 0-4)
A special department within the school provides daytime care for all children up to age four. At age four, shortly prior to admission into the academy, all resident children are subject to a series of tests administered at the school.

Early Development (ages 5-9)
Children are formally enrolled at age 5, receiving their Unity Links and enjoy a (mostly) ordinary elementary school routine, with recess twice a day. At important points, four times a year, students undergo extensive testing, and their development is charted out. All this information is contained in the individual’s archive.

There is a quiet “meditation” time each school day. Students are isolated in darkness and monitored, and are sometimes presented with small tests. Typical things like bending spoons with your mind, or lighting paper on fire with just your fingers.

Advanced Development (ages 10-12)
Recess drops to once a day :(

At this stage, children will begin to express their abilities more strongly, and demonstrate more control. There’s no graduating early and you have to be at least 13 to start your education at Beata Academy.

Alternative Education (ages 12+)
Giftless children are not permitted to learn at Beata Academy, and instead continue their education at Liberi. They receive your typical high school education and wear blue uniforms trimmed with white. This unfortunate bunch are sometimes disparagingly referred to as "left behinds."

Beata Academy
Students are enrolled starting at 13. Many students, either by choice or circumstance, board in the school dorms, while others return to their own homes at the end of the school day. Beata Academy employs a year-round curriculum, with a short summer vacation but longer breaks throughout the year. The student leadership are formed by elected prefects, who have the authority to discipline rule-breakers and mediate fights. They wear dark uniforms with a badge bearing their House symbol and surname.

The school day begins at 8 AM and ends at 3 PM. Room checks are performed by the prefects at 11 PM.

Prefects are student leaders elected by members of their own House. They have the power to issue write-ups, to seize and restrain rule-breaking students, and serve as mediators for school duels. Their recommendations for discipline, such as detention, are usually listened to.

First Year (ages 13-14)

Second Year (ages 15-16)
Guardian prospects can begin training at this age and go on more advanced missions. Driving lessons become available at a course on Benedicite campus.

Third Year (ages 17-18)
Graduation season is traditionally in the fall for Beata Academy. New students tend to arrive throughout the year.

Benedicite Institute
Higher education for aspiring young professionals and academics, and where Guardians become trained for the field. Giftless students at Liberi with acceptable grades can start courses here as young as 16, but continue to wear their old uniforms.

Guardian recruits enter the Institute as cadets and must endure a grueling 13-week physical training course. All cadets, regardless of their future branch, train together as a class before learning their individual roles.
