Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic} Empty
PostSubject: Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic}   Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic} EmptyThu Sep 20, 2018 2:06 pm

A gun.:

A mask.:

A note.:

A bullet.:

A key.:

The new headmaster rubbed his temple, staring down at the file in front of him. The shooter was Norman Carter. A graduate from Benedicite with a degree in Social Sciences. A blank student with a perfect record, not even a speeding ticket. What caused the man to change into something that violent?

What was the protest for? No gods, no kings…? Blue eyes gazed up at the door to watch the group of guardians he requested to  file into the room. Leo straightened his posture and rose from his seat as soon as the others were seated. It was a long table in the meeting room. The walls were adorned with various pictures of Beata, as well as soundboards to limit the echo of voices. The dim lighting did little to lighten the somber mood that the room radiated. Even the natural kind disposition of the angel was gone. Removing copies of the file on Norman from his briefcase, Leo handed one out to each guardian, and a braille one for Linh. There was not a lot on the man, and the files fluttered to the table rather than a heavy thud each one of them would have liked.

They didn’t have any leads.

Returning to the head of the table, the headmaster was silent for a moment. Then suddenly he spoke again. ”This is all we have. The shooter was a graduate from Benedicite. Nothing wrong with him. Then, turned shooter in a protest--luckily no casualties. Thank you, Montare.” The angel gave a nod to the wolf, then a nod to Magic. ”And you Mason for protecting Shepard.” Leo’s thankfulness as soon as it had arrived, cast away as soon as he frowned, lifting a picture into the air. A cold dead body on a steel bed. Whatever was left of the man’s head was placed on the table in the photo, unrecognizable to the man in the file.

”He had to have known something if he was shot down like that. The only thing in his pockets was the unregistered gun, keys and the receipt you see in your files there. What do you think of this, everyone?”

PostSubject: Re: Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic}   Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic} EmptyThu Sep 20, 2018 2:22 pm

There was an anger in Devin that burned deep in his stomach as he walked into the room, his face dark with a scowl but it lighted as he saw Leo standing at the head of the table, unharmed and perfectly fine. But part of the anger was toward himself, that he hadn't been there to protect his brother-in-law. He had been patrolling the Wall as normal, having decided to skip out on the ceremony as he had thought nothing would happen. And yet so much had. He sighed softly as he slide into his seat, thankful that Leo had brought him in on this.

Devin's anger was dangerous if he didn't have a release, it was more easier to control them then perhaps anybody else thanks to his gift. He had worked hard on getting past it, but there was always the danger and...This was going to be a good way to redirect it out instead of keeping it in. He nodded his head in a slight thanks as the file was handed to him, quickly flipping it open as he scanned what was known. While he was still annoyed that he hadn't been there, hopefully he could at least give an...Untainted view on things. He knew only the facts, and he had enough training to see things through a logical view even if his anger wanted otherwise.

His gaze flickered up as Leo started to talk, letting the paper he had been holding to read what was underneath flutter shut as he lowered the file. It was...Unsettling that the shooter had been just a...Normal person. At least...The moment there was a silence to talk, his gaze flickered up to Leo. "He's a Blank, isn't he?" he asked, staring down at the information they had on the shooter. "They were shouting something about 'no gods, no kings,' right? This might be an Anti-Gifted group in our own city. After all, what we can do is terrifying to Blanks." As he spoke, he felt a pit fall into his stomach. His own sister was a Blank, luckily one who lived a normal life outside the city with their parents. Part of him hoped that he was wrong, that they weren't dealing with a...An Anti-Gifted Cult but...It made perfect sense to him.

Ethan had excused himself from the meeting, after pouring himself into his work after the shooting, much of his time had been spent reassuring people their panic attacks were nothing to worry about - as well as insisting on assisting in the shooter's autopsy. As head of the Medicinal Branch, he'd said, his time was best spent caring for the citizens rather than helping in the front of any investigations.

Which was, admittedly, disappointing to Samuel. Most of the gifted in the city already doubted and silently judged him in some way for being born with no gift. Ethan was one of the exceptions that he'd come to work with. It would have been nice to have a friend at a time like this, other than the Headmaster himself, in an atmosphere so suffocating caused by nothing other than another un-gifted person.

His gaze was stuck on the mask. "There were a number of them I could see from the stage, in the back by the gates..." Sam furrowed his eyebrows. "Not to mention whoever it was that killed the shooter. They were obviously colluding."

PostSubject: Re: Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic}   Oh Shit. {Guardians Plot Topic} EmptyThu Sep 20, 2018 3:05 pm

A thin man in crisp Guardian uniform leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled over the papers in front of him, lilac eyes angled downward. It looked like Lupo and the Headmaster's other pets had been caught on the hop when it counted most. There were no deaths. Well, except the one. That was the problem. "A cult?" Ryan leaned in, eyes sharp. Ridiculous. Blanks had the entire rest of the world to live in freedom, and the gifted only had this one place where they could use their powers without fear. But they were short on leads. If their perp had lived, they could've wrung something out of him. Anything. They didn't even know what this protest was about.

One man in a crowd with a gun. That could be explained. But the sniper, the people in the masks... It was bigger than that. They were only getting a glimpse of the full picture. "Someone benefits from having you dead, Herman. It's just a matter of narrowing it down to who." This guy was no mastermind or else he'd be sitting in front of them with silver bracelets; he was just a cog in someone else's machine. "This gun was manufactured in the outside world. How'd he get his hands on it?"

The raven-haired woman had arrived not too long after Leo, having come from rather close. The school day had just ended, and considering she taught chemistry last as always she was in her signature lab coat. Considering the situation it didn't exactly look very formal. Taking a seat not too far from the Headmaster, Taimi took her file and flipped through it. Given the details and the event, she bit her lip. The fact that it was a Blank did immediately raise her concern. And a Benedicite graduate with a clean record? It juts didn't make sense in her mind.

Listening to the other guardians as they went around the table, the heterochromatic glanced at Headmaster Herman. "It is very possible that there is a cult or some rebel group among the Blanks. The Rose District has been rather suspicious as of recent." It was something she recalled going home every day, as more and more blanks seemed to be almost... retreating. Suspiciously. "Did anyone get his Unity Link? Any tracking information off of that... anything that could be useful at all? Surely there would be SOME degree of information. Even if it was taken off at some point?" Curiosity and concern filled the teachers' voice. Her fingers flipped through the folder, and the key caught her attention. "What's up with this key? It says 'Hidden Creek, B303.' Is that a room here at Beata or maybe even Benedicite..?"

"A cult is the only way to describe the group in my opinion. Or a gang of some sort." Funny coming from him of all people. Magic sat back in his chair unsure what to make of this situation. If this had been created in their own city then he wasn't doing his job right, and it really pissed him off.

The gunman having a clean record didn't surprise him. It was harder to trace back that way. Especially if it was a group blanks they didn't have gifts to save their skin. They needed to be basically invisible. At this point in time he didn't have much to offer. He needed to think on all of what they were presented. Though he did have one question. "Do we know what kind of gun the sniper used yet?" Surely the could figure that out from the bullet the sniper used.

Linh's fingers ran over the grooves and bumps, rising and falling with each hill of letters. She tapped her foot on the floor in a rhythmic pace, her stomach twisting into unmanageable knots, a feeling of dread sinking deeper into her chest. How could this be? Surely the city didn't treat Blanks poorly enough that they would protest about... whatever this was. Her unseeing eyes scanned back and forth as she turned her head, sable black hair drifting with each motion, toward the source of everyone's voices. "Hidden Creeks is an apartment complex in Aurum, Chị," Linh softly corrected, a little more meekly than she would've liked. Too much information to digest. Unsafe if it really was a cult. "I can ask the ghosts to look. The room might have traps that go off if we step inside."

Up until now Montare had opted to just listen while looking through the file that was handed to him. He couldn't help but be mildly annoyed at how limited their information was; the gunman's assassination even proved that there was more valuable information that could've been... extracted from the gunman if he lived long enough, but his assassin knew dead men tell no tales. Montare finally spoke up when he heard Taimi mention the key and the room it gave access to. "It's a room at the Hidden Creek Apartments in the Aurum District, yes. I sent guardsmen to keep an eye on it in case one of Carter's friends decides to drop by. For all we know there could be more clues in there." His eyes moved between the files in front of him and the other people at the table as he continued to speak. "Based on the note in his pocket, the assassination attempt was planned in advance and someone else put him up to it. It's possible that the masks aren't meant to hide their identities as much as identify them as a member of whatever this group is. Finally, I would think that their chant means they see us as trying to rule over them. Perhaps they wanted to eliminate the Headmaster in an attempt to cut the head off the snake." Montare was fairly confident of his analysis of what information they had so far, even if it was fairly limited. "Of course, we may be able to learn more if we go to Carter's apartment."

Trey sat pushed into the table, his foot tapped uncomfortably against the ground with his knee occasionally knocking on the table. It didn't make sense. The gun was obvious, he used it to shoot Leo. The mask, obvious. Used it to identify himself as part of the cult. The bullet, obvious used to kill. But the key had no purpose, it was the only thing in the collection of items that didn't connect. "The note..." His voice was almost a soft whisper, but enough to get attention. "It says 'Do not forget your role'. He had to be controlled in some way, or brain washed. And if they say role, does that mean they have more to do? He was only one part of a big scheme?" Trey pursed his lips, the frustration of not being able to do more setting in. There was nothing to lead off of, their tracks were covered.

Wait

It was far fetched, but there was no other idea that was coming to his head. White, a blank color that the group classified themselves with. Blanks, what they were, powerless. No gods or kings, possibly the gifted? What if they're trying to kill off the gifted and make everyone "equal"? What was the cults purpose? To make everyone a blank? "I might be going down the wrong path with this, but they're blanks right? And they are chanting 'No god, no king'... You guys don't think they have a way or are trying to make us blanks? Or even erase us completely?"

It didn't take long for Leo to have a page full of notes, a light tapping of the pen touched his chin as he glanced at the map of River's Pointe on the wall. A breath escaped the headmaster and he offered his own thoughts. "We need to look into how those guns got into the city if they were not registered." Leo circled something on his paper, placing the pen down. "I am not certain who would want me dead, Ryan. Your guess is probably better than mine." His eyes glanced down at the notepad, leaning back in his seat. "My only reasoning behind someone coming after me is because I'm the headmaster."

The blond turned to Taimi with his settled frown, bracing his arms on the armrest, fingers tracing the leather stitching. " We can't assume every person in the Rose District is suspicious. Norman had no powers. Unity Links are mandatory for minors over 5 years. He is over the age of 18, long since having graduated." Taking a breath, the angel continued doing his best to answer questions. "We do not know what gun was used, Mason, all we have is the bullet. Some guardians went to the sniper's nest a bit after and found nothing."

A nod came from Leo as Linh spoke. "That would be a wise idea, thank you Linh." The man must have expected a search into who he was, it would not be shocking to have traps set up. "My thoughts exactly, Montare. Leo paused, making eye contact with Trey, blue eyes widening. "If that were true," Leo slowly ran his eyes over the group gathered that day. "that would be the worst case scenario." The headmaster leaned forward, sliding the pen between his fingers--jotting something down on his pad.

"Powers are an intrinsic part of someone's DNA. Removing powers will certainly kill the victim."

Yellow page turned, tucked under the pad, with a fresh page of paper the headmaster began sectioning off the paper. "Montare, I would like you to take Linh and your most trusted clan members to investigate Mr. Carter's apartment. Leave nothing unturned." More markings were written in another square. "Mason, take some other guardians with you to look into the guns and how they got into the city." He flipped back to the first page. "Report to me in person. Do not send anything to me over email." Blond hair swayed as Leo dropped his head to write another note. "Any more thoughts?"

Devin leaned back in this chair as he flipped through the papers in front of him as the others started to give their own suggestion. His mind remained focused on whatever the motive could be. Ryan had a point, somebody had wanted Leo dead in particular. They hadn't aimed at the newly stepped down Headmaster, but for Leo. He had to agree with Trey, this sounded like a group who were gunning for Gifted people in particular. Even if the Gifted community was happy to stay in the city, would the Blanks who lived here truly understand that? Did they live in fear of the day that one day, the city wouldn't be enough and the Gifted would set their sights to rule the world like Agrona had seemed set on doing?

He sighed as the conversation winded down, brushing a hand through his hair as Leo started to give out orders. He wasn't completely surprised that he wasn't ordered in one place in particular, musing over what options he had for himself. But honestly...He was more worried about the safety of his family. Leo wasn't just the Headmaster but his own brother-in-law. "Leo, may I have permission to be stationed at your house for the time being?" he said, giving a glance over to Montare as he straighten up in his chair. "Nothing against the Lupine Guard, but if they are going to be focusing on the investigation, I would feel better making sure your - our family stays safe until this all blows over. My skills are better at protecting then investing anyways," he admitted as he closed the folder, sliding it away from him.

Montare nodded to Leo and began to stand up, pausing when he heard Devin mentioning the Lupine Guard. After he was finished speaking, Montare gave him a nod as well. "While I can't imagine that there will be a shortage of guardsmen to protect the Headmaster, I'm sure that they would appreciate your help, Devin." Part of that was a perhaps a slight lie; they might not be super fond of having someone else coming in to help them do their job. But that didn't change the fact that Devin would almost certainly be a great help, especially if Montare did end up having to pull Leo's guards away for some reason. Montare made his way over to the door, waiting for Linh to follow after him. Hopefully, they would arrive before the guardsmen he'd stationed near the apartments ran into any issues.

Taimi listened intently to the other information given out by the other guardians, nodding at the clues they had put together. She hadn't gotten to know the town of Rivers Pointe as well as she would have hoped to do so, but the fact that they had a rather good lead would be a huge bonus. When Leo turned to talk again her head snapped immediately towards him. She nodded. He did have a point, and it hadn't been her point to pin the blame on all blanks, but it certainly was a potential thread that made her suspicious. Considering the speculation that she had experienced when living as an Olympian, it most certainly was a mixed bag when it came to how the populous felt about the gifted community. "With the permission from those involved, I would like to be part of the investigation at the apartments." She stated simply. Of course, so long as it didn't take away from her work. But it seemed like there would be a good amount of downtime until the next session of courses.

"The more protection we can get to the Headmaster, the better in my opinion." She gave a smile and a nod to Devin, a sign of appreciation for the offer. "To an extent of course. If we need guardians around the town for protection during the weekend hours, I can volunteer my services." Without knowing the motives of the shooter or what they were part of, Taimi had a knot in her gut that the headmaster wouldn't be the only one targeted.
